The events of the past few weeks have been deeply troubling, heartbreaking and scary. Our country has to change, and now. It starts with each and every one of us. But what does that mean?
I’ve been doing a lot of listening because this is a time for many of us to open our hearts to learning more. My whole life I have been comfortable knowing “I am not racist.” However, after listening to a podcast by Brené Brown recently, I am now aware that being “not racist” is not enough. She spoke to Ibram Kendi, New York Times bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist and the Director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University who explained that what we should instead focus on is how to become “anti-racist.” There is a difference. I am grateful for his voice and words of wisdom. As with everything, it starts with awareness and then real growth arises from there. As the great Maya Angelou said, “When you know better, you do better.” I hope you will give yourself the gift of listening to this free podcast at iHeartRADIO.
The “One” is our company’s name is filled with many meanings, and the most important of all is that the human race is ONE. When one of us is oppressed, we are all oppressed. When one of us is hurt, we are all hurt. We are ONE. We at This One Dress truly believe that Black Lives Matter and will continue to listen, learn, and act.
Sending love and the prayer that we can all do and be better,
Diane
